Spring Summer 2008
In a blaze of colour, print and jewelled embellishment, Ann Louise Roswald releases a stunning collection for Spring Summer 2008.
Inspired by the spectacular landscape of the West Coast of Ireland that also provided the backdrop for the look book - soft tints with vibrant bursts of colour; seamist, milkwood and ivory contrast with vivid crimson, lustrous “surprise” coral and citrus zest. Shot against the dramatic, Atlantic coastline - blustery blue skies, unspoilt wind-weathered beaches and swaying grasses - an expanse of breathtaking natural landscape gives life to the collection creating movement, with silhouettes that express freedom and simplicity.
Prints are inspired by rich, natural displays of flora. Bold crimson pansies adorn easy silk-jersey dresses, while hand–embroidered appliqué flowers are scattered across soft chiffon dresses. Graphic tulip prints embellish loose cotton voile skirts, vests, kaftans, and pretty sundresses. A playful beachball print decorates baby-doll dresses and tops. Delicate beading and burnished bronze sequins evoke a precious antique feel, adorning dresses, straps and waistlines.
Neat tulip dresses are an elegant choice, sleek with slivers of glinting sequin embroidery. Hemlines become shorter in some cases - a sixties style mini shift dress is embellished with floral sequin details and a fine silk knit Jessica dress slips effortlessly from day to evening. Pintuck pleat details feature, and sheer chiffon sleeves create soft contrasts in texture and hue. A sequined prom dress with a full, pleated skirt is a glamorous showstopper and signature piece. Light, tailored coats create an elegant silhouette, a cinched waist Vivienne coat or a trapeze Audrey coat, both embellished with delicate sequin embroidery to add contemporary, feminine detail. Printed and embroidered cropped jackets are perfect cover-ups for the range of dresses as well as versatile garments that are stand-alone pieces.
Handknitted cotton shrugs and cardigans fit snugly, and are finished with scalloped edges for the prettiest look. Knits from 100% spun silk are scattered with sequin embroidery and provide a range of little cardigans, tanks, and knitted tees.
For evening, a silk-satin halterneck May dress is printed with a cascade of stunning flowers, while a delicate silk chiffon Pandora dress is rouched and draped with Grecian elegance. The ultimate in dramatic simplicity, a silk jersey column dress falls to the floor, with chiffon train billowing.
